British indie rock band, Everything Everything have been announced as a headlining act during this year’s Iceland Airwaves festival event. The festival, held between 13 – 17 October, is Iceland’s biggest arts event, with live music played across various venues in downtown Reykjavik.

Everything Everything are among the various international acts set to play over the five-day event. Other international artists confirmed to play include Rolo Tomassi, Hercules and Love Affair, Robyn, The Joy Formidable, Mount Kimbie and The Antlers, as well as Icelandic favourites, Agent Fresco, Amiina, Seabear, Reykjavik!, Minus and Sudden Weather Change. This year’s festival is the biggest yet, with over 250 bands booked to play, 180 of which are Icelandic.

The Iceland Airwaves festival is an annual music festival that prides itself on promoting up-and-coming international and Icelandic musicians, mixed with Iceland’s unique party atmosphere.

The first Iceland Airwaves festival was held back in 1999 as a one off event in an aircraft hanger at Reykjavik Airport. Since then, the festival has become a haven for new music, attracting hundreds of partygoers, journalists and industry members from around the world. David Fricke, Senior Editor at Rolling Stone has labelled Iceland Airwaves as, “the hippest long weekend on the annual music-festival calendar.”

Although the festival is now sold out, numerous free off-venue shows in downtown Reykjavik are going ahead for those who have unfortunately missed out on passes.
